About the Fellows Program
MSIP’s Fellows Program is designed to educate and engage early-career scientists, attorneys, and/or business professionals who have strong interests in the commercialization process of new therapeutics, diagnostics, medical devices or digital health technologies to the worldwide patient population. If successfully completed, the fellow will be prepared to leverage their expertise in science, business and law to help drive research discoveries to the marketplace. The two-phase scheme will train participants in the various aspects of technology commercialization.

What Will I Gain?
Part I: Scholar Bootcamp
Participants will be engrossed in a holistic approach through the Scholar Bootcamp, discovering the fundamentals of technology transfer and entrepreneurship. Using a case study approach, participants will learn concepts including contract negotiation, targeted market research, development of technology assessments, prior art searches, examination of commercial potential, investment strategies, business modeling, and product development.
Part II: Immersive Program
Following the Scholar Bootcamp, select participants will be invited to the Immersive Program, where participants will work directly with MSIP experts. Participants will be matched to one of six specially-designed tracks that will provide hands-on experience in one of six specially-designed tracks:
- Business Development
- Intellectual Property Management
- New Ventures
- Finance & Operations
- Marketing & Outreach
- Alliance Management
Candidates must have:
- A strong technical background in the biological sciences, physical sciences, or engineering
- Obtained, or in the process of obtaining, an advanced degree in science, business or law
- Demonstrated interest in the field of technology commercialization, intellectual property, licensing or entrepreneurship
- Strong communication, organizational and computer skills
- Availability of 6 – 10 hours per week for a minimum of 3 months* (for select participants, another 3 – 4 months for the Immersive Program)
Successful applicants will also be required to complete a non-disclosure agreement, Mount Sinai Volunteer Services application and background check/health evaluation prior to joining the program.
The following materials are required to apply:
- Completed MSIP fellows application form
- Professional resume or CV
- Cover letter that includes your reasons for applying and what you hope to achieve from this program in relation to your career goals
- One letter of recommendation from a current or previous employer, mentor or adviser

What Happens After I Submit My Application?
Once you have submitted your application package, the Fellows committee will review your application and contact you should there be any questions. We will notify you by early September if you will be joining the 2018-2019 cohort beginning the Scholars Bootcamp in October 2018.
*The Scholar Bootcamp consists of 2-4 hours of didactic classroom sessions every Friday, beginning in October from 9 AM – 1 PM, and ending in early December. The remaining time will be used for course preparation and case studies.
