New Therapeutic Strategies to Combat Antibacterial Resistance
October 23, 2018 @ 9:00 am - 6:00 pm
$25 – $160Antibiotics are cornerstones of modern medicine, essential for treating patients across the spectrum of disease from routine skin infections to surgical procedures to protection for vulnerable patients receiving chemotherapy. The rise of multidrug resistance at an alarming rate constitutes a major threat to human health. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, each year in the U.S. alone, at least 2 million people become infected with bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics and 23,000 people die annually as a direct result of these infections. This symposium will focus on the current challenges that basic and translational researchers are facing to fight antimicrobial resistance, as well as offering perspectives on emerging therapeutic strategies to address this global health threat.
